18 Wheeler Truck Driver Charged with Involuntary Manslaughter in car fire accident

A Houston student and his older brother were on their way to their parent’s home in Maryland when they were fatally injured in the wreck, said state police.

The brothers, traveling in a 2007 Honda Civic, were in traffic on the interstate when a tractor-trailer truck pushing their vehicle underneath another big rig truck that was in front of them slammed them from behind. The accident caused a chain reaction, which involved 5 vehicles.

Police said one of the tractor-trailer’s side fuel tank exploded causing a fuel fed fire to spread quickly through the vehicles. As a result the Honda Civic the brothers were traveling in was burned beyond recognition, killing both the young men inside.

The driver of the tractor-trailer is been charged on two counts of involuntary manslaughter and must return from California to face charges.

Often in cases of auto fire, an experienced accident and injury attorney will also look at the product design issues of a car fire.  Placement of the gas tank, and design of the fuel system have been subject of product liability lawsuits and reached prominence with the Ford pinto case many years ago.

Over the last 20 years, The Baumgartner Law firm has handled numerous auto fire lawsuits against most of the major manufacturers of automobiles.
