2 adults and 2 children die in apartment fire

Firefighters arrived at a Houston apartment fire about 2 am Friday to discover two children and two adults inside the apartment. Fire officials said they believe the fire started in this apartment, but the individuals did not appear to be trapped inside.

The children were located in a bedroom however the adults were found in the living room. CPR was attempted at the scene, but the victims were pronounced dead upon arrival at a local hospital, officials said.

According to reporters, the apartment manager said every unit was equipped with smoke detectors however, a neighbor said the unit did not have any smoke detectors. A television reporting crew was taken into a neighbors apartment where there were no smoke detectors installed.

No one else was injured, and an arson team is investigating what might have started the fire.

The main causes of apartment fires are heating units/equipment, cooking, smoking materials and arson.

According to the Houston Fire Department all apartment units are, by law, required to be equipped with at least one smoke detector with a battery and one class A fire extinguisher. It is also required by law that the apartment manager ensure that both the detector and extinguisher are in proper working condition when a new tenant moves in.

If you believe you have been injured as a result of someone else’s negligence contact a Houston injury attorney for a consultation.
