Safety regulators have issued citations in connection with the investigation of the safety practices of two Houston companies. The safety violation allegation by OSHA is part of an enhanced effort by OSHA to protect workers.

One of the safety violation allegations was related to failing to provide adequate breathing protection for workers, according to reports.

Another local company was cited in connection with what was called an inadequate process safety management program reports indicated. The safety procedures were relating to preventing accidental startup of machinery, which can put workers in a dangerous situation.

In 2010 OSHA started a program they have called the the severe violators enforcement program which seems to be targeting companies who demonstrate indifference toward worker safety. I applaud the efforts of OSHA in the implementation of this new program.

The truth of the matter is that if companies protect workers and implement effective safety strategies and policies it is good for their bottom line.

The victim was wearing a helmet and was struck in the head by the turn signal of the big rig. According to reports the victim was then run over by the tractor trailer. Medical professionals indicated that the victim was the deceased at the scene.
