According to investigators, a drunken driver may be the cause of a fatal car accident in north Houston.
A woman driving a Mazda 3 northbound on the North Freeway was struck when the driver of a Honda CRV swerved out of her lane. The impact forced the Mazda off the road crashing into a light-pole, a Houston Police Department officer said.
The driver of the Mazda was killed instantly. The diver of the Honda was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The Houston Police Department said, based on it’s preliminary investigation, they believe the driver of the Honda was intoxicated at the time of the accident and charges are pending.
According to the U.S. Center for Disease Control 32 people die in America each day in automobile crashes due to impaired drivers. A whopping 32% of fatalities in car accidents are due to drunk drivers according to a study relied upon by CDC.
Drugs other than alcohol account for 18 % of deaths in vehicular accidents in the United States. Frequently, such drugs are used in addition to alcohol.
