Houston apartment fire kills 4

An apartment fire killed two adults and 2 children today in Houston.
According to reports, a unit at the Walnut Creek Apartments caught fire, early Friday morning.

Fire fighters and emergency rescuers tried to revive the victims while transporting them to the hospital. Arson teams are investigating the cause of the fire.

Every 15 seconds a fire department responds to a call somewhere in the United States. The leading causes of residential fires are smoking, heating, arson and children playing with matches.

The best protection for people living in apartments is to have several working smoke detectors in their apartment and heed any warnings. Check and replace the batteries at least once a year. If the smoke detector is not working, it can not save you.

Many of the Houston wrongful death fire cases I investigate involve smoke inhalation as the cause of death and it has been estimated that as many as 80% of fire deaths are actually as a result form inhaling smoke rather than burns.
