Houston Drunk Driving Accidents

We have spoken about drunk driving accidents numerous times in this blog. But its deadly effects are so devastating that it is a topic that deserves revisiting on a regular basis. Just last week a Houston citizen was sentenced to thirty years behind bars for the intoxication manslaughter of a young teenage girl. He will be required to display her photo in his cell for the duration of his sentence. The culprit was a thirty two year old man whose blood alcohol level was well over the legal limit. He was shooting through a neighborhood and had been seen to run three stop signs before coming up on a school bus that was deboarding. The young girl stepped into the street and was run over.

One second, one moment. We’ve all had the desire to take back something we’ve said without thinking or acted with disregard. But the power of drunk driving is that one moment someone is alive and breathing and the next they are not…and will never be again. The story is so unsettling – horrific even. It makes we parents grab on a little tighter to our children – believing that our physical presence can keep them from harm.

Even if the man is behind bars he will still be alive and breathing and in thirty or fifteen years when he is released that young girl will still be gone. Such a waste of lives and potential and such a heartache that will never dissipate – all in the name of getting liquored up to forget our troubles and daring to get behind the wheel of a vehicle.

To be sure…what a waste.
