Houston-DWI patrols are out for spring break

Pasadena police will start a crackdown on drunk drivers this weekend and will continue the enforcement for 10 days.

A special DWU task force has been formed and polices the Houston areas largest drinking holidays and events like the rodeo, St. Patrick day and of course, spring break.

Included in the enhanced effort to corral drunk drivers are the Harris County D A’s office, and HPD.

One of the main target roadways is the stretch of Highway 225 that is known for high-speed accidents, and during the DWI crackdown additional officers will be on duty.

The primary responsibility of patrolling the Houston area freeways is to slow drivers down in an effort to reduce injury from car accidents.  One goal of the patrol vehicles is to be very visible to traffic, thus serving as a deterrent to high speeds.

Officers will also be on the lookout for college students on the loose from spring break.  Sergeant Gary White of the DWI task force reminds minors that the legal limit for alcohol for those under 21 in zero or no alcohol.
