The Houston Chronicle recently reported online that a 32-year-old woman has been arrested in an accident that happened on Highway 6 Wednesday afternoon. According to reports, the car accident occurred at the 4800 block of Highway 6 when a maroon Ford expedition crossed the centerline and South and hit a black Ford escape traveling in the North direction.
Apparently, the Ford expedition then hit another car, which then lost control and was hit by two others. All in all the multiple vehicle accidents appear to be caused by the expedition leaving its lane of traffic. According to the report, the driver of the expedition was alleged to be under the influence of drugs at the time of the accident and is expected to be charged accordingly.
A 42-year-old man died in the accident, another was in serious condition and the other injuries if any are unknown at this time.
There was no information regarding the specific illegal drugs that were alleged to have been used or other basis for the expected charges.
I wish six was tied up for hours pending the investigation and removal of the vehicles.
Houston has become somewhat infamous for its high numbers of fatal drunk driving accidents, but we are also at a very high rate of drug accidents in Houston. Many times the use of prescription or illegal narcotics is hard to verify without appropriate testing. Alcohol, is much easier to verify given the breath tests that are readily available to officers.
Most of the time, when there is a fatal accident, the authorities will seek blood testing from parties they suspect were under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
