Lightning struck a Houston area home this weekend and caused the house to burn completely. Fortunately, the family living in the home escaped harm.
A neighbor described the thunder before the lightning strike as an explosion. The home appears to be a total loss. Let us hope that the insurance company for this family treats their claim fairly and does not discount the value of the home or possessions.
Recently, primarily in response to tort reform and also judicial activism on the right, insurance companies have gotten very selfish in the claim handling process. When the ability to hold insurance companies accountable has been diminished by the courts or taken away by our legislature, consumers suffer.
Many people do not understand the ramifications of tort reform on their life when they have a legitimate claim.
If you have a claim and are treated unfairly, it is appropriate that you look toward your legislature for redress.
Only when Texas consumers can hold insurers accountable in court will Texans be treated fairly by insurers or in truly “good hands”.
