Houston man sentenced to 30 years in drunk driving accident

A Houston judge has sentenced a 32-year-old man who pled guilty in the death of a 13-year-old young girl. The car accident happened in 2008.

The man also was sentenced to 10 years for failure to stop and render aid. According to reports, the man will have to serve at least 15 years in prison before he is eligible for parole.

This accident is another example of the consequences that befall those who drank and drive and hurt members of the public. There are situations where a criminal uses a gun and robs a business or shoots and kills a person and then is not sentenced to 30 years.

Hopefully, with the sentencing the family of the 13-year-old victim can start the healing process. Reports of the young girl indicate she was a young girl with a great attitude about life. I feel deeply sorry for the family’s loss.

When sentencing like this takes place, hopefully,  the media coverage will cause some to reconsider driving after drinking. For anyone interested in advancing awareness of drunk driving accidents please consider contacting and donating to MADD.
