A man was critically injured in a Houston automobile accident on Allen Parkway just outside of downtown today.
The driver lost control of his car and struck a tree in the one vehicle accident. The accident victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition. It took the use of the jaws of life for rescue workers to cut the driver out of the wrecked car.
The roadway was wet and police indicate the wet street may have played a role in the accident.
Recently, a famous Houston personal injury attorney lost his life on the same roadway when he lost control of his vehicle. A wrongful death lawsuit was filed by the estate and family of the passenger in the attorney’s vehicle who also died in the car accident.
According to the Department of Transportation, more than 450,000 car accidents happen every year in the United States on slick roads. Mainly car accidents on wet streets are caused by hydroplaning, which is when the tread of the tire does not displace enough of the water for the tire to grip the road adequately.
To counter hydroplaning, many experts recommend that you remain calm. And keep steering in direction you are going, remove your foot from the gas pedal and slow down to gain traction.
