This sad story is compelling because it highlights car accident victim needs to be on the safe side particularly where a head injury is suspected from an automobile wreck.

A concussion is the most common type of brain injury from a car accident and is usually caused by the brain being shaken in the car crash. A brain contusion is where the brain has suffered a bruise.

A recent study published in the Journal of Biomechanics related to head impact and whiplash injury experiments, found that half of the head injuries is related to head rotation and the remaining brain injury potential is related to the contact phenomena.  If the head rotates during a whiplash, such as a car accident, at or above a specific level, a cerebral concussion in probable according to the studies hypothesis.

The symptoms of a head injury from an automobile accident can occur immediately or develop slowly over several hours or days. Even if the skull is not fractured, the brain can move up against the inside of the skull and be bruised. The head may look fine, but complications could result from bleeding or swelling inside the skull and that can be real trouble.

Symptoms of less noticeable head injury to watch out for after a car wreck:

  • Feeling dazed or brief loss of consciousness
  • Headaches
  • Blurry vision or nausea

  • Sensitivity to light or sound
