Is Texas behind the curve on banning all text messaging?

The question has been asked recently, given the studies showing the increased dangers of texting while driving, is Texas missing the boat in our refusal to ban all texting or cell phone use while driving?  How many texting drivers cause auto accidents in Houston and across Texas?

That question must be answered by looking at and balancing personal freedom that we Texans prize to highly. Many studies have shown hands free devises greatly reduce the risk of distraction while talking to the phone.

Some cities in Texas (like Austin) have passed additional laws dealing with texting or cell phone use. Yes banning cell phone use in school zones is a good idea, but do drivers always know when they are in a school zone? How will it be enforced? Does it go far enough?

These and other good questions will be continued to be discussed as groups like FocusDriven advocate bans on electronic communication devise use while driving and raise awareness of the safety issues.

The Federal government has recently banned texting by commercial drivers- the question is should Texas do the same for all drivers?
