A Galveston man has filed a personal injury lawsuit against Home Depot after being injured while in the store. The man, who owned a concrete restoration company, was in the home improvement store when a door that was used as an overhead display fell on him seriously injuring his left hand.
According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff was walking down an isle with a store employee when the display door came crashing down. As a result of using his left hand as a shield from the falling door, he suffered extensive bone, ligament and muscle injury to his hand. His back and right hand were also injured in the accident.
The severe injuries to his hand have resulted in surgery in an effort to piece the bones back together. Since the accident, the victim has been unable to work, and according to his treating doctor will never regain significant use that hand, the suit states.
In the the personal injury lawyers for the plaintiff alleges the store not only failed to properly secure the display door but also failed to warn customers of the dangerous condition. He is seeking damages for “serious physical, financial and emotional injuries” as a result of the accident. The case will be heard in a Galveston County Court.
