A Texas City man was found guilty of drunken driving which left an Army reserve soldier critically injured. The 52-year-old man was convicted partly on the testimony of a forensic evidence expert from the DPS. The expert testified that in her opinion the defendant had a blood-alcohol content of around .165 at the time of the wreck, it is reported.
The car accident happened in October of 2008. After having “five or six beers” the man drove from Lamarck to Lufkin to visit family. The accident happened on Highway 59 when a Ford Mustang was being operated going north on the southbound lanes, according to reports.
The car accident victim sustained a broken leg, rib and ankle injuries and a punctured lung in addition to other injuries. The victim of a drunk driving accident was transported to the hospital and had several surgeries. Apparently the injuries are still a problem after almost 2 years.
The case was tried to the judge who found the defendant guilty of assault and intoxication assault. Sentencing is scheduled for approximately 45 days after the bench trial.
